The inky/purple-hued, enormously endowed 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Secret des Sabon is a monster of massive concentration and power. It reveals a suppleness to the tannins as well as a more evolved, accessible personality than the 2007, but, wow, it should keep for 20-25 years.

Also fabulous, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape le Secret du Sabon reminds me of walking through the massive street market in the town of Vaison la Romaine in Provence. Exotic spice, cured meats, leather and licorice are all grounded by a rocking core of cassis and kirsch-styled fruit. Seamless and layered on the palate, with full-bodied richness and plenty of tannin, it's another thrilling vintage of this cuvee that will drink nicely for over two decades.
